This year’s family reunion was an unforgettable event, marked by unexpected twists and heartwarming reunion. Despite a rainy start, our spirits remained unbroken as we celebrated our enduring bond, paid tribute to our ancestors, and shared cherished memories.

A Rainy Beginning, But the Grill Prevailed

Mother Nature had a plan of her own, showering us with intermittent rain throughout the morning. However, our indomitable spirit prevailed! Gary’s determination finally conquered the elements, and the grill was ablaze. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and succulent ribs sizzled to perfection, filling the air with mouthwatering aromas.

A Tribute to Our Legacy

Cousin Terrence led us in a heartwarming prayer before our feast, honoring the remarkable 96-year-old Marie Dean, our oldest living family member. We joined hands and voices to pay tribute to our departed loved ones, celebrating their enduring presence in our hearts and memories.

Familiar Faces and Heartwarming Surprises

While our crowd was smaller than usual, it was a joy to reunite with those we hold dear. Donna Kirsey, Don Kirsey’s daughter, and her family surprised us with a treasure trove of family photos and mementos. Dean Drake, Rosemarie Drake’s son, and his children graced us with their presence after a long absence. Let’s keep Dean in our prayers for a swift recovery after his recent health scare.

We also shared moments with Sean and Jessica Collins, whose mother, Lynne, was dearly missed. Jessica’s family had recently moved from Canada to Amsterdam, marking a new chapter in their lives. Rosemarie delighted us with a display of treasured family pictures and mementos, reminding us of our rich heritage.

Unity Through the Annual Reunion

With fewer children present, we skipped our usual games this year. However, the annual reunion brought everyone together for exciting prize-winning opportunities, although we regret not having pictures or names of the lucky winners. Nevertheless, the highlight remained the same—being together, sharing stories, and rekindling connections, especially for those not active on social media.

Looking Ahead to 2024

Exciting plans are already in motion for our 2024 reunion, which might span three memorable days in Canada! We’re on the hunt for 2-3 Canadian family members to help our U.S. family reunion committee with logistics, ensuring an unforgettable gathering. Click link below to volunteer. Remember, traveling to Canada from the U.S. requires an enhanced driver’s license or passport, so start the process early. Stay tuned for updates and other potential events in 2024.

Mark your calendars now—the second Saturday in August is reserved for our family reunion. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces again!

Until we gather again, stay connected, and keep the spirit of our family alive.
