About

Welcome to the Henson-Nevels family website of the Descendants of Josiah Henson. Here, we proudly celebrate our heritage, honor the remarkable legacy of Josiah Henson, and strive to inspire positive change in the world. As descendants of a man whose resilience, compassion, and commitment to justice continue to resonate, we carry forward his values and work towards creating a better future for all.

The Descendants of Josiah Henson is a community of individuals connected by a shared ancestry and a deep sense of purpose. We trace our lineage back to the indomitable spirit of Josiah Henson, an extraordinary man who overcame the horrors of slavery and rose to become a respected abolitionist, minister, and humanitarian.

Josiah Henson’s life was an epic journey of triumph over adversity. Born into slavery in 1789, he endured unimaginable hardships but never lost sight of his humanity or his unyielding belief in the power of education and freedom. Escaping to Canada with his family in 1830, Henson became a prominent figure in the abolitionist movement, tirelessly advocating for the rights and dignity of all people, regardless of their background.

The Descendants of Josiah Henson are committed to carrying on his mission by promoting education, justice, and equality. We strive to raise awareness about the history and legacy of Josiah Henson, as well as the broader struggles and triumphs of the African American community.
